It started with a simple cat painting and the story told itself. "The little girl's name was Trixie. She likes to match her clothing to the beautiful olive-green color of her eyes. She carries a little purse with her wherever she goes and inside there is a teeny tiny tin of sardines."
In the beginning, the cats revealed their secret lives to me during the painting process, but later, the stories came first.
Although I'm obsessed with watercolor, I have little or no art education. I spent a lot of time painting mediocre projects. It was important for me to improve my skill at watercolor and so I painted little pictures every morning over and over, day after day for a full year. Then, one morning in early January, I realized that I could paint cats. They are far from perfect but I love every one of them. Some a humorous and some are sad. All of the tell the stories from the cat's perspective.
